Sony, Microsoft en Nintendo zijn momenteel ware concurrenten van elkaar. Het komt dan ook geregeld voor dat een van hen negatieve uitspraken doet over de ander. Zo ook Sony over de Wii. Peter Dille van Sony heeft in een interview met Gamasutra namelijk verteld dat de Wii eigenaar van de kast is. Hiermee bedoeld hij dat de console snel in de kast onder het stof verdwijnd omdat gamers er weinig op spelen. De Xbox 360 is volgens hem de heerser van het kantoor en de Playstation 3 die van de woonkamer. De Wii zou volgens hem vooral leuk zijn voor feestjes en partijtjes. Toch is de Wii nog steeds enorm populair.
"I don’t want to steal Jack Tretton’s quote, but he’s fond of saying: "Microsoft owns the office; Sony owns the living room; and Wii owns the closet." And that’s an aggressive, probably quotable line.
But the point he’s trying to make is something that we find backed up in a lot of our research and focus groups: that people who are playing the Wii bring it out when friends come over and then put it back away — that the console that stays connected to the TV is a different system."
