De betekenis van die schaars geklede vrouwen-game

Afgelopen jaar werd al bekend dat de Nintendo 3DS game Senran Kagura Burst naar Europa zou komen. Toentertijd vroegen wij ons al af wat nu eigenlijk de precieze betekenis achter de titel was. Na contact op te hebben genomen met de uitgeverij van de Europese versie, zijn we dan ook wat wijzer geworden. Het blijkt dat de titel eigenlijk weinigzeggend is, zowel in het Japans als in het Engels.

I’m afraid the English translation for Senran Kagura Burst wouldn’t make sense, just because it doesn’t make any particular sense in Japanese either to be honest!

The word “senran” means “the scene of a battle” in Japanese, and ”kagura” is a sort of Japanese traditional theatrical dance.

And, when we refer to huge breasts, sometimes we use a slang “爆乳” , which can literally be translated as “bursting breasts”…

So the English translation would be

“the scene of a battle, Japanese dance, burst(ing breasts)”

I’m not entirely sure what the developing team meant by this title.  I think they just liked the sound of “Senran Kagura Burst”, rather than its actual meaning.

Senran Kagura Burst zal hier vanaf 27 februari verkrijgbaar zijn. Aanvankelijk leek de kans niet heel groot dat het spel naar Europa zou komen. Senran Kagura Burst is namelijk zo’n typisch Japanse game met in de hoofdrol schaars geklede dames met flinke boezems. In Senran Kagura Burst nemen deze dames het op tegen ninja’s.
